Snus Tour: Snus Secrets and More

A lot has happened since my last blog; I went to Sweden to see how Swedish Match makes snus. I’m not going cover everything in this post. Worth mentioning is that, like a dumb ass, I forgot my camera in Austin, so any pictures I post come from Chad or Swedish Match or stolen from somewhere on the Internet.

I get on the plane in Austin and, of course, I’m supposed to sit between two obese women — clinically speaking. Real, real big ones. If I had had my camera, I would have taken a picture for you. Happy I forgot it yet? Luckily, there was another open seat… What does this have to do with snus? Nothing. Onward.

Eventually, I met up with Chad and then together we found our way to Swedish Match’s Gothenburg factory. I googled “Swedish Match factory Gothenburg” and this came up, which is, in my opinion, better than any picture I could have taken for you.

Anyway. It looked like a building… Actually Chad has a decent photo:

Three dudes from Swedish Match were our guides, Markus and Joakim, who you may know from the boards, and a dude named Nick, who hadn’t yet been to the factory. The first thing they did was give us presents.

Yes, friends. That’s General Scotch. Apparently they made it for stores years ago, but don’t any longer due to some legal issue. I still haven’t tried it.

They then told us some snus secrets that you may be very interested in. Apparently Nick and Johnny Black is being replaced by Nick and Johnny White, which will be exactly the same except for the bag and the tin. I didn’t get a picture, so I recreated it based on my photographic memory and exquisite art skills:

The story with this is Norway (again) — I suppose Norwegians are snus racists. White sells. Black doesn’t. Thus, N&J black will turn white. When? I don’t know.

Also, Larry’s rumor of General snus being available in Lab Series bags is true. But there’s more. There will also be a strong portion. Again, no picture, but the tin they showed us kind of looked like an old General tin. When? Again, I don’t know.

Then they took us on a tour of their Gothenburg factory. More on that next time…

XOXO,

DrSnus

Your picture of the Gothenburg factory was much better than Chad’s or any I took when I was there. Well done! :-)

Looking forward to your next installment! In the meantime, I do need to save that factory picture of yours. I love Swedish architecture!
