Snus Basics

This page is for people who are new to snus. It answers some basic questions you may have.

What is snus?

Snus is a finely ground spitless, smokeless tobacco treat that you put in your upper lip.

What is snus made from?

Snus is made from tobacco, water, salt, and flavoring. The flavoring agents are all food-approved substances that you’d find in everyday food.

How is snus used?

Portion snus is simply placed inside the upper lip. I usually put mine like this, except on the inside of my lip:

Also I’ve never used it with lipstick on, but I’m certain it could be done.

Loose snus requires a little more technique to put together. I use a portion tool, available at all shops, to use loose snus. Just load it up and you’re good to go.

Is snus bad for you?

If you don’t already use some kind of tobacco product, there’s no reason to use snus. If you do use tobacco, snus is the safest, tastiest, cleanest and most efficient way to do it.

What kinds of snus are there?

Snus can be categorized in several ways.

1) Loose or Potion

Portion snus comes in a little tea bag like container that keeps the tobacco neat and clean while in your mouth. Loose snus is not in a bag and is just pure snus goodness.

2) Mini, Large, Maxi

Portioned snus comes in several sized. Mini portions usually have about 0.5 grams of snus in them. Large snus is by far the most prevalent and has about 1 gram of snus in them. Maxi snus is the least common type of portion and tends to have about 1.5 grams of snus or more in each.

3) White and Original

Portioned snus has another category, the moisture content, and each style has its benefit. You see, original portions have a little extra water added back into them to give them extra moistness. White portions do not, and are nice and clean when you put them in.

4) Flavors

Snus comes in all types of flavors. Some are sweet, some are salty. Some have a citrus flavor, some taste like spices. Others just taste like pure tobacco. There are so many flavors out there that anyone could find one they’ll like.
