RJR Sues Gov’t, Claims Free Speech Violation

The Wall St. Journal reported that RJR, Lorillard, and other tobacco makers have filed suit to block some provisions of the new federal tobacco law, claiming that the law violates the companies’ first amendment rights.

Especially of interest to us snusers:

“The companies also challenged a rule that restricts their ability to publicize the relative health risks of certain products such as smokeless tobacco.”

How will this play out? I don’t know for sure. My guess is that it will take a long time, cost millions of dollars and ultimately be decided by the supreme court in a split decision. 5/4 in favor of Camel…
