Questions Abound About Today’s New Snus

Today we’re seeing two new snus on the horizon. First, there’s Jakobsson’s Wintergreen.

This is the newest snus offering from Gotlandssnus, a high quality though low-key snus maker. This, however, is somewhat interesting. These portions are slightly bigger than your average pouch. Here are the mathematics…

Typical Snus Tin = 24 grams
J’s WG Tin = 24 grams

Typical Snus # of portions = 24
J’s WG # of portions = 20

So Typical portion weight = 24 grams/24 portions = 1 gram per portion
J’s WG porion weight = 24 grams/20 portions = 1.2 grams per portion.

Therefore… They are 20% bigger and you get 16.6% fewer portions.

However, questions remain. ThatSnusGuy over at Snuson.com reported:

According to Gotlandssnus, this new flavor will also be a unique snus to the Gotlands portfolio in the fact that it has the same 9 mg of Nicotine that all their snus offerings do, but an adjustment was made to the PH levels so that the tobacco will release it quicker into the bloodstream.

I assume that the “same 9 mg of Nicotine” means 9/mg per gram. Since we’ve already determined that this is 1.2 grams, this minty fatty should be about 10.8 mg per portion. No? Let me know if my logic is off here.

Now the real question is weather their wintergreen recipe is good or shitty. Stay tuned…

You can preorder it here for its release next week.

And there’s the third snus by new snusmaker’s GN Tobacco… Olde Viking Original

I haven’t had any snus made by these guys, and I probably won’t unless people start raving about it or it shows up in my mailbox. You see, its made using somewhat controversial snusmaking techniques. GN insists that it’s totally kosher. Go here to read what the company says about its method.

Anyhow, after spearmint and ginger lime, their experimenting with an original flavor. I saw on snuson that they were giving away samples.

I need to have around 10 people around the world to be our tasters, which means that I will send you guys samples to get some feedback. You could be a new snus user or an experienced user that doesn´t matter, what I want to say is that you don´t have to be Dr.Snus to get some samples. GN Tobacco has Real Licensed snus Doctors who is qualified to say what is harmful and what´s not ;-)

Hmm… Was that a dig at little ol’ moi? Probably. I’d like to see their Doctor of Snus diplomas. I admit that I don’t really know whether their snus is more or less harmful than other snus. Rumor has it that they’re coming out with some scientific data soon. I’ll try to get my fingers on it it, although, since I’m not a “real snus doctor,” I might not be able to understand all their highfalutin words.

And if you want to try out this snus, you can get it here.
