Obama Signs PACT Act
Well, looks like it’s time to stock up on snus. The President signed the PACT Act today. As of June 30th or thereabouts, retailers will be required to collect your state taxes, ship with a private carrier, and get that carrier to verify your age on delivery.
Here’s a link to an article about it from a Buffalo paper.
What’s this going to cost you? Depends on where you live and how much snus you buy.
For your tax rates, check this out (PDF).
Northerner has said that they’ll begin complying June 29th.

Looking at the tax rate PDF, does SNUS fall in the Snuff category? I am in TX and it says 110ยข/oz. (with min. tax). So does this mean it will be a 110c/per oz tax on top of the sales tax?
So if a can of snus costs $3.00 and is 24g, it would .85oz @ 110c (or 92.5c) + 8.25% sales tax?
$3.00 + 92.5c + 24.7c = $4.17 / can ??

It’s actually worse… It’s $1.10 per ounce, but the minimum tax on any container is $1.32. so…
$3.00 + $1.32 = 4.31 + sales tax (36 cents in your case) = $4.67…
Stock up.
