General Silver

Review: As one of the most reviled snus made by Swedish Match, I wasn’t expecting a whole lot going in. But as it turns out, it’s not as bad as people would have you believe…. Although it’s not quite great either. Let’s see what gives silver its bad reputation.

The snus smells nice. It has a mild tobacco and nice citrusy smell. The portions look a little wonky though. It’s like someone couldn’t decide whether to keep them white or not, so they look as if they got a half splash of extra moisture. Looks don’t matter to me though, I’m really just interested in flavor.

In the mouth, the flavor isn’t bad at all. It’s mild and citrusy from the get go. It’s not excessively salty, and as the citrus fades, a peppery tobacco flavor comes in. The pepper flavor is decent enough, but when that flavor subsides (about 30 minutes into the snus), what comes next could be described as a woody flavor, but I’ll call it old wet cardboard.

The biggest problem I have with General Silver is the consistency of the tobacco. It’s not quite right. It’s a little too spongy and seems to stick together in a strange way. This could be because the snus is a milder snus, and they achieve the mildness by tossing in vegetable fibers into the mix.

Suggested Use Time:
After 30 minutes, I’m out. I like the citrus taste to this one, but what follows isn’t great.

Dominant Flavors:
First a nice citrus flavor, then peppery tobacco, and then old wet cardboard

Buzz Factor:
Mild/Medium

The Prognosis:
If I were stuck on a desert island with this snus, I wouldn’t be depressed to have to use it. Since I am not stuck on a desert island, I’ll find better snus.

Dr. Snus Rating:
++ (Bootylicious)
