Camel Frost
Review: I was at the gas station this morning because my wife left me an empty tank after borrowing my car, and I saw the sign for camel snus on the door. I decided to try the frost version. The tin that it comes in is very cool looking, and I know I’ll have to resist the urge to save the tin in my desk for some potential future use that won’t likely come. The can holds just 15 pouches. Interestingly, the expiration date on Frost is much later than most of the Swedish snus I get, this one is about 10 months down the road, where most of the Swedish Match snus I get expires in just a few months. This could be differences in the snus itself or a marketing ploy by either company. Who knows?
The first thing I notice about the snus itself is that it smells like a pack of spearmint gum. It’s shaped differently than most snus… long and skinnier probably to minimize noticability for stealth snusers. It tastes just like it smells, sweet spearmint. The lip tingle is a little different. It’s a minty tingle that at points almost made me want to take it out (but I didn’t). It’s sweet like candy — probably the sweetest snus I’ve had. But it isn’t an unpleasant sweetness at all. The tobacco flavor is non-existent. In fact, even the juice you get from it is mint. In fact, you could swap spit with your special someone and they’d think you just brushed your teeth.
On the down side, the tobacco is very dry and a little weak. And bag failure from Camel snus happens differently than it does with Swedish Match snus. The bag tends to rip apart horizontally across the middle instead of vertically at the ends, allowing more tobacco to spill into your mouth.
Suggested use time: Camel says for up to 30 minutes, but the flavor in this seems to last forever. I’ve experienced structural failures after the 45 minute point, which may explain the 30 minute recommendation.
Dominant Flavors:
Spearmint, Sugar
The Prognosis:
If you’re into sweets or not into tobacco flavor, this snus is for you. For me, I’ll use it instead of a mint after meals.
Buzz Factor:
Mild
Dr. Snus Rating:
+++ (Good)
